The Line & Rail Artspace: Through the Eyes of Children opening event

Inspired by childhood imagination, Mary Elizabeth Barron transforms her grandchildren’s drawings into intricate lace artworks.

Mary Elizabeth Barron has created a series of bobbin lace and needle lace works based on the artwork of her grandchildren, Jack and Aurora Shepherd, between the ages of four and seven.

Children at this age are so free and confident in their drawing. There is no concern whether it is correct or good enough, it just is and they are happy and proud. The drawings are full of joyful, quirky characters. Mary tries to capture the essence of this joy, confidence and freedom in her lace recreations of the drawings.

The Line & Rail Artspace is open Thursday to Saturday 10 am to 4 pm.
