The Twits
Wednesday 30 April, 2025
Roald Dahl’s gruesome twosome, the Twits, arrive to delight and disgust, in equal measure. Mr and Mrs Twit are the nastiest couple you could ever hope (not) to meet. Both are on a quest to be meaner than the other – but, is there someone out there who can out-twit the Twits? Full of trickery and wickedly funny pranks, Dahl’s adored classic encourages us to treat others with love and care and proves that if you have good thoughts, they will shine out of your face like sunbeams.
Packed with Dahlicious mischief, hilarious mayhem and big belly laughs, The Twits is unmissable theatre for all ages. You won’t believe your (glass) eye!

Crossing the Divide
Thursday 8 May, 2025
A high school history class sets out on a two-day trek across the Great Dividing Range, learning about the expedition by Blaxland, Wentworth and Lawson. As the group travel through the Blue Mountains, their guide Lionel draws their attention to what is often left out of the history books. They learn about some of the earliest interactions between Indigenous people and the colonial explorers, revealing some of this nation’s difficult truths.
As the trip continues, Liam, a scholarship student from the Torres Strait, starts to feel uncomfortable, constantly having to declare or defend his experience as a First Nations person to his classmates. Tensions mount when Liam’s friend Max refuses to see how European settlement created anything but a positive pathway to progress for a newly forming nation. Tempers flare around the campfire and Liam becomes lost – in time and place – as he’s suddenly staring down the barrel of a shotgun held by an equally startled and confused Gregory Blaxland.
The physical landscape of the Great Dividing Range serves as an allegory for the pertinent issues that Australia is grappling with and the divide between various parts of our society. Crossing the Divide asks the question, “Can we find a path to a more unified Australia, or is the distance too vast to cross and will we always be divided?
Crossing the Divide premiered in March 2024 and is written and performed by Sam Foster, Hayden Jones and Benjin Maza, with sound design and composition by DOBBY.

Queer & Here is a school excursion for 12–17-year-old LGBTQIA+ youth and allies which aims to empower young people by providing environments where they can freely express themselves, form supportive relationships, and build confidence in their identities.
Across the event, attendees get to experience thrilling performances from a range of different drag queens, engage in fun activities like drag bingo and story time readings, and engage in a Q&A session with the cast where they discuss topics or burning questions relevant to them.
Recognising the unique challenges faced by LGBTQIA+ youth, Queer & Here creates opportunities for these young individuals to connect, learn, and thrive in a welcoming community. Our events focus on fostering inclusivity, creativity, and joy. Since its founding in 2020 Queer & Here has had over 1000 youth attend the events.

The Scene Project
Outcome days are Wednesday 3 September – Thursday 4 September 2025 (Term 3 /Week 9)
The Scene Project is Queensland Theatre’s largest Education offering. It is a state-wide participatory program that supports secondary students to engage in the creative process of performance making – from conception through to performance.
Each year Queensland Theatre commissions a new play specifically for The Scene Project and its audience and participants of secondary schools. The script is sent to participating drama groups in Term 1, with the challenge of creating their own unique 15-minute version of the play. During the making process in Term 2 or 3, Queensland Theatre Teaching Artists visit all participating schools to facilitate a creative development day offering guidance and support to students and teachers.
The Scene Project is about collaboration, acknowledging students and teachers as artists, building confidence and encouraging live performance in a professional space and manner. It is also an excellent way of participating in professional development and enhancing existing curriculum in schools.
The project concludes with schools coming together for Outcome Days in Term 3 at their local performing arts centre. For schools in and around Logan, Kingston Butter Factory provides the Butterbox Theatre for performances. Outcome Days feature 3-5 participating schools’ outcomes, as well as a professional production of the full commissioned play performed by Queensland Theatre actors responding to the same ‘minimalist’ parameters set for the schools.
The final stage of the project is a learning forum that allows for students to acknowledge the skill and artistry of their peers as well as engage in robust discussions around process and performance building.
