About Logan Arts
Logan Arts – connecting creative Logan
Artist led | Paper-cut portraits of labour in Logan
As part of Thread: Connecting stories and community join artist Pamela See for a hands-on workshop exploring garments and the histories of labour that have shaped Logan.
The migration of workers has long contributed to the cultural diversity of Logan, with clothing playing a powerful role in signalling occupation, identity and social position. From uniforms to everyday workwear, garments carry stories of resilience, skill and belonging. Held on Labour Day weekend, this workshop reflects on these histories through paper-cut silhouette portraiture, a pre-photographic practice that captures character through shadow and profile.
Participants are invited to take part as either artist or sitter to create their own silhouette portrait.
Thread: Connecting stories and community was co-designed and co-curated by the National Portrait Gallery, Logan Art Gallery and local artists and creatives as a pilot project to develop new ways of working with communities across Australia. The exhibition is supported by the Australian Government.
