Art 101 | Photography basics with Dolores Ruiz Diaz

Art 101 is Logan Art Gallery’s monthly education activity which aims to familiarise individuals with the fundamentals of art. This month we introduce you to basic photography. Whether you’re new to the medium or looking to strengthen your fundamentals, this session will guide you through the essential building blocks of great photographic practice.

What you’ll explore:
– Composition – learn how to arrange subjects within the frame for stronger visual impact.
– Exposure – understand aperture, shutter speed and ISO, and how they work together.
– Focus and Clarity – tips for achieving sharp, well-defined images.
– Content and Concept – how they shape compelling photographs.
– Lighting basics and digital camera functions.

What to bring:
This workshop is relevant for both digital and analogue photography using either a SLR or smartphone camera. Please make sure your device is charged and has sufficient space to capture lots of images.
