The Line & Rail Artspace: Our birds through art exhibition
The Line & Rail Artspace
This exhibition brings together work by local artists exploring Australia’s native birdlife, from familiar backyard species to more elusive visitors. Expect a range of styles and perspectives that reflect both the detail and diversity of these birds.
Exhibiting artists are Andrea Carroll, Chrys Zantis, Dr Karen McPhail-Bell, Egil Gausel, Elizabeth Burrows, Ellena Thompson, Fadzilah Wilson, Jasmin Williams, Jennie Bell, Kris Estreich Leigh Russell, Melanie Rule, Madhu Khanna, Mikeala Patterson, Mosessa Preisenberger, Phillip Blunt, Rachael Lee, Rachel Savonoff and Ronelle Reid.
Each artist in this exhibition captures this entangled relationship with humour, admiration and care. While birds are a subject of beauty and awe, through close observation of the works we gain insight into peoples’ relationships with the wildlife that surrounds them. Making connections with the birds living alongside us offers us a greater sense of who we are and our communities. We may see our friends, family or ourselves in the vibrant flair of the lorikeet, the peaceful warbling of the magpie or the quirky nature of the tawny frogmouth.
Many of the works use recycled materials, highlighting the complicated relationship between humans and birdlife. Through caring for the shared environment of our winged companions, they in turn help shape our experience of home and community.
The Line & Rail Artspace is open Thursday to Saturday 10 am to 4 pm.
The Line & Rail Artspace is a Logan City Council, Creative Industries initiative supported by the Regional Arts Development Fund, a partnership between the Queensland Government and Logan City Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.
