Where do I belong? exhibition introduction
Where do I belong? audio description
Jingeri jimbelung (hello friend) and welcome to this exhibition.
“Since the European colonisation of Australia, 21 species of birds and 27 species of mammals have been declared extinct. Over 200 of Australia’s bird species are currently facing extinction, and many more are in decline. The loss of Australia’s bird life…reflects the loss of natural habitat as a result of land clearing, urbanisation and invasive species.” Australian Museum
As you explore the gallery and the works on display, we hope to share with you the impact we are having on the birds around us.
We would like you to get to know our native birds better, learn more about our local species and see them with fresh eyes. Behaviours that are often misunderstood are natural survival responses, driven by the need to protect young, find food and adapt to changing environments.
The City of Logan has diverse wetlands, bushlands and grassy woodlands that are valued places for people and wildlife alike, yet they face growing pressure from urban expansion and climate change. Like all living things, we share a desire to feel safe, secure and connected to a place we can call home.
Let’s go on this journey together and learn how we can nurture our environment and create places where we all belong and can thrive.
Audio descriptions are vivid verbal descriptions that make visual information accessible for people who are blind or have low vision while also offering fresh insights for everyone.
The audio descriptions for Where do I belong? were co-created by Sarah Empey, Sarah Barron and Chelsi Foskett, with the goal of enhancing accessibility for every visitor. In the gallery, they can be accessed via QR codes placed alongside selected artworks and thematic wall texts.
These QR codes are identified through printed and braille signage, as well as tactile floor indicators positioned directly beneath them. Logan Art Gallery encourages visitors to use their own devices with headphones or earbuds. If you have any questions or need assistance, please speak with our friendly gallery team.
