About Logan Arts
Logan Arts – connecting creative Logan
Stitching stories with Kyra Mancktelow
Over the course of Thread: Connecting stories and community, artist Kyra Mancktelow will work with a group of local Indigenous and culturally diverse community members to create a possum skin cloak at Logan Art Gallery, a living work that gathers and holds stories of local significance.
Beginning with the careful stitching together of each skin, the slow and intentional process of making the cloak honours connection through making. On Saturday 18 April from 1.00–3.00pm, you are invited to sit with Kyra and her collaborators in the gallery space to share stories, reflect on the exhibition’s themes, and witness the cloak begin to take shape.
Feel free to bring along a small sewing, stitching or jewellery-making project of your own to work on as you take part in this program.
Thread: Connecting stories and community was co-designed and co-curated by the National Portrait Gallery, Logan Art Gallery and local artists and creatives as a pilot project to develop new ways of working with communities across Australia. The exhibition is supported by the Australian Government.
