Inspired by Archibald Prize-winning artist Del Kathryn Barton and her striking work from the exhibition Where do I belong?, this creative workshop invites participants to explore their connection to birds, nature and place at Mayes Cottage.

Working outdoors and drawing inspiration from the surrounding environment, participants will observe and respond to the birds, trees and landscapes around them. Using a combination of pencil, inks, gouache, watercolour and acrylic paint pens on paper, you will experiment with mixed-media techniques that blend en plein air (outdoor) observation with personal storytelling through symbols, colour and imagery. All materials will be provided.

Like Barton, you will explore ideas of identity, belonging and connection, creating artworks that weave together the self and the natural world—the birds, trees and places that share our environment.

What to Wear

Enclosed, low-heeled footwear suitable for outdoor terrain
Dress appropriately for weather conditions (sun protection, warm layers for cold weather, rain protection if wet weather is expected, clothing suitable for hot or windy conditions)
